Center for Governance and Leadership (CEGOL) in collaboration with Bwalo Likule Network (BLN) hosted a Story Lab for Generation 20 Academy Cohort Members at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) in Blantyre.
Speaking during the official opening ceremony, CEGOL Board Member, Counsel Sandra Machinjili challenged the youth participants to take responsibility in shaping their future and that of Malawi as a country. Said Machinjili “the Story Lab is a very significant exercise as it will help you develop design thinking skills that will help each cohort member to come up with their community projects for maximum impact”. She then assured the cohort members of her organization’s commitment to transform their leadership potential and help them be the changemakers in the society.
Emmanuel Namponya, a cohort member under the academy couldn’t hold his excitement for participating in the session; “I am very happy to take part in the Story Lab. As a young leader, I am challenged to design various projects and activities in my community of which it becomes difficult if I don’t have relevant skills. The session is therefore timely as it has helped us acquire skills in leadership and how we can design community projects”.
The Story Lab brought together 25 young people from across Malawi to learn how they can tell community stories, advocate for change and design projects for greater community impact.
Among the facilitators were Shemu Joyah, a renowned and award winning filmmaker as well as Marcel Chisi a seasoned Governance, Democracy and Human rights expert.
